Animal rescues and organisations on the Azores

There are several organisations and motivated individuals working very hard to make a difference in the lives of the many abandoned animals of the Azores islands. The kennels - an absolute last resort for an animal - are overcrowded, understaffed and often lack basic care and acceptable sanitary conditions. Following is a list of animal organisations. Bear in mind there is little to no governmental support, so if you reach out for help please contribute what you can.

An anonymous government portal SOS Animais was set up in recent years to report animal abuse/abandonment on. Unsure what - if any - action is taken, but perhaps it’s effective to also report on there, so that there’s some sort of centralised realistic overview.
