Fundraiser for the kittens of Viação
In August, thanks to generous donations and help of volunteers, 18 cats were trapped, neutered and returned in a remote part of Viação, Ponta Delgada. It was an incredible, emotional experience - and the results remarkable: thousands of new cats prevented being born into misery.
But, we had to leave 10 younger kittens behind as they were too small to spay/neuter. Together with the Animais de Rua, we would like to trap and neuter the remaining kittens - effectively closing the production cycle. But, we can't do it alone. We need your support!
Left behind
We had to leave about 10 kittens behind in August. They are now old enough for spay/neuter surgery.
On 5 and 6 January, we will head out altogether to trap the kittens. They will be spayed & neutered at a clinic we have booked then we will return them to the location.
Our goal is to raise €770 for the spay/neuter surgeries and deworming. If more than this is raised, the surplus will be donated to Animais de Rua. This organisation tirelessly feeds colonies and TNRs across the island, helps poor families care for their pets and, perhaps most importantly, petitions the government and communities for change in animal welfare regulations, practices and culture.
Vet care, estimated at €770
Spay/neuter surgery and deworming.
Food supply, estimated at €800
Costs of food for the coming year.
How does TNR save lives?
1 cat, 1 year = 12 kittens.
Those 12 kittens = 144 offspring.
By 3 years = 1,728 great-grand-kittens.
About Animais de Ruas
Animais de Rua helps thousands of stray animals, neutering them so they don’t reproduce, providing medical care when they are sick, and feeding them. They promote a peaceful coexistence between animals and people, respecting both animal welfare and public health.
What’s next
Thanks to the kindness of so many, we reached our goal to cover spay/neuter surgeries for this colony. You can still help! The cats here need food and deworming meds. Consider donating to the Animais de Rua.
Also, a small monthly donation to Cats of Eden goes a really long way. Follow what we’re up to on our channels!
